I posted a topic like this a while back and about 65% agreed the solo and riff from Guns N' Roses-Sweet Child O' mine was the best and I agreed 100% and I stick to that.

Guns n Roses as a whole are uninspired and bland.

I'd go for any Type O Negative solo, personally. Or the keyboard solo in The Hand That Feeds by Nine Inch Nails. :p

Well, Casey never said it WAS fact. You just assumed that he said as much.

I for one happen to agree with Casey's opinion, though.

Solo-wise, the only one I can think of at the moment is John Frusciante's stuff on L'Via L'Viaquez and Second Walk.

Oh, and Jane's Addiction's Three Days. Dave Navarro. OMFG.

    And Jimi Hendrix stuff.

Can't believe no one's mentioned Audioslave's Like a Stone yet.

Also, Bad Religion's The Defense has a pretty sweet solo.

Ill Nino - This is War just because having a latino guitar guitar solo kicks ass so badly...

There's loads of other but I'd be here forever if I listed them...

Honestly, the solo in that song is really easy to play, it just sounds all OMFG because he's using a whammy pedal to raise the pitch by 2 octaves and a lot of reverb.

A lot of the guitar solos in Kiss songs (100,000 Years, Black Diamond, Parasite, Detroit Rock City, etc.) stick with me because I grew up listening to them.

Eruption by Van Halen takes the cake though.

Yeah, Tom Morello's really overrated. He's a good guitarist, but he's not that great. He just uses some cool effects to make it all OMFG like you said.
