No one ever gives enough credit to bass players. Like I've seen "wats your favourite Vocalist/Dj/Guitarist/Drummer threeds but never a bass player threed. (Or I've never seen one since I joined the LPA) So lets show them their respected and list are top 3 --------- Mine are: Cliff Buorton - MetallicA (R.I.P) Fieldy - KoRn Nick Oliveri - Queens of the stone age
1. (the guy from Mudvayne. I forget his name sorry.) 2. Fieldy (Korn) 3. Phoenix Farrell (Linkin Park)
1. Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) 2. Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) 3. Justin Chancellor (Tool) Honourable Mentions: Tony Levin (King Crimson, Liquid Tension Experiment), John Myung (Dream Theater) edit: I have NO idea why Phoenix is on anybody's list. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I see nothing special about his basslines. I could probably play most of them.
Two bassists who always stick out to me are : 1. Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) 2. Justin Chancellor (Tool) As for the 3rd...thats a tough one... I'm impressed by Mike D'Antonio (Killswitch Engage) and also by the basslines in A Perfect Circle songs (Paz Lenchantin and Jeordie White), Nick Oliveri impresses me too. Also Maynard James Keenan was a decent enough bassist in his day! Though I think singing was his true calling.
You could play Pheonix's basslines, because they are extremely easy. They probably put him because, for one.. He's Linkin Park's bassist or two... They don't really pay attention to bass. Same for Mark Hoppus, he and Pheonix are pretty sucky bass players, at least they don't show it if they are very good. Sorry, I can't state my top 3, there are to many great bassists... 1. Flea (RHCP) 2. Freeman (Rancid) 3. Fuzz (Ex-Disturbed) 4. Fieldy (KoRn) 5. Chancellor (Tool) 6. ????? (Frayl) 7. Justin Haltmar (Calico System) These would be my favorite bassists, but their are a lot more.
1. Fieldy (Korn) 2. Tony Campos (Static-X) 3. Eddie Breckenridge (Thrice) And honorable mention goes to... Traa (P.O.D.)
1. John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) 2. Flea (RHCP) 3. Ben Kenney (Incubus, The Roots) Honorable mentions: Phoenix (Linkin Park) Myron Dove (Santana) Stanley Clark Brad Delson, Ian Hornbeck, and Scott Koziol (Linkin Park) (on Hybrid Theory)
I could too... If I had a five-string.. And a tuner, niether of which I have. Brad Delson plays bass? Since when? No, wait.. Ah crap, let me get my linear notes. In no particular order: Joel Bruyere - Thousand Foot Krutch Ben Kenney - Ex-The Roots, Incubus Flea - Red Hot Chilli Peppers Keith Hoerig - Five Iron Frenzy
You wouldn't need a five string. Pheonix rarely plays on a string besides the top d string (He drops E to d (dadg), so just tune down half a step with a tuner (or by ear) and vuala. The only songs he plays on different strings are like Forgotten, Lying From You, and From The Inside ... I think thats all ... oh and Easier To Run ... but still you could just use a four string ... he never uses the bottom d string or the g string. And yes, Brad plays bass. He did the majority on HT, but Scott Koziol and Ian Hornbeck did a few, and I think Ian was the touring bassist, I don't remember if it was Ian or Scott, but me and another guy argued about this earlier. I forgot to mention SOAD's bassist, Shavo Odajien (I believe/sp? maybe). I've been learning a lot of SOAD stuff lately, and yesterday I just learned EgoBrain, which really isn't to difficult, but it's not easy either. And kutos to him on Streamline, which I believe is extremely difficult on the verse because it is played so fast, I've been practicing for a week and just can't quite get it.
