The Hunting Party is the sixth studio album from Linkin Park, scheduled for release in North America on June 17th, 2014, June 16th in the UK and on June 13th elsewhere. The album follows LIVING THINGS from June 2012, giving fans yet another album in quick succession. The album is co-produced by Brad Delson and Mike Shinoda, the latter of which had a hand in co-producing LIVING THINGS (2012), A Thousand Suns (2010), and Minutes to Midnight (2007) with renowned producer Rick Rubin.

On March 6th, 2014, the band released the album's first single Guilty All The Same through Shazam, which required fans to tag any Linkin Park song through the application to be linked automatically to the single itself. Warner Bros. released the single the next day as the lead single for the new album, which at the time was still unannounced. The song featured renowned American rapper Rakim, the first single released by Linkin Park off of a studio album to feature another artist. Just over a month later, the band and the label both unveiled The Hunting Party for a June 2014 release on April 9th, 2014, followed by the track listing on April 27th. The band subsequently released another track, Until It's Gone, on May 6th, 2014 as the second single on the album. On the same day, pre-orders for the album were made available on the iTunes Store.

In regards to the title of the album, Mike Shinoda had this to say, "I read a piece about Japanese culture talking about how people there were concerned that the new generation of kids were becoming herbivores - they were passive, and they weren't going out and getting a job or going out and getting a girlfriend. They were sitting and playing video games, and waiting for stuff to come to them. They were worried about what would happen to their culture if there weren't any more carnivores. And I thought, what's going on in rock music is really the same thing... I was looking for something visceral and aggressive...and couldn't find it. That's where the name [of the tour] comes from, Carnivores, and Hunting Party refers to that too - being aggressive and going out and getting what you're looking for. When I say 'hunting...' this isn't a record about being nostalgic... we wanted to make a record that had the ethos [of rock bands from the '90s], that heart and spirit - but not sounding like that. It had to sound like something modern and cutting edge. That was the other component of what we were looking for and what wasn't being done."

The album features a number of other artists beyond Rakim, including Page Hamilton (Helmet), Daron Malakian (System of a Down), and Tom Morrello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave). The band premiered songs live from The Hunting Party for the first time at the KMFA Day Music Festival in Tucson, AZ on May 24th, 2014. Guilty All The Same and Until It's Gone were performed for the first time, and in addition the band premiered another track, Wastelands. The track officially leaked onto the internet after Mike Shinoda threw out CD singles containing the studio version of Wastelands to the audience at Rock in Rio Lisboa VI on May 30th, 2014. Following the release of The Hunting Party the band will go on a double-headline tour of North America with Thirty Seconds to Mars, entitled the Carnivores Tour, through August and September of 2014. AFI will serve as the opening act for the entire tour.
