I'd have to watch the making of MTM DVD to see, but knowing Chester's naming skills, I would say that sounds pretty legit.
That's why Meteora = worse LP album for me. The only exceptions were Breaking The Habit which was superior to Runaway and Easier to Run which i like just because.
The only one I want to add to that is Burning In The Skies - The Fog SOURCE: Meeting Of A Thousand Suns
I find demos along the web.. MTM seeds and demos -Unreleased Minutes to Midnight stuff: Grecian (Given Up Demo) Japan (song that was cut) Fire in the City (song that was cut, but parts were reworked into Given Up) Unknown song (song that was cut, David Campbell recorded strings for it - short clip on Making of MTM) 21 Stitches (Given Up demo) Fear (Leave Out All the Rest demo w/Mike on vocals) Accident (Bleed it Out demo w/various alternate lyrics) Shadow of the Day (demo) (Demo w/various alternate instruments used for intro sample) (Is THis ' we use the pain?' Song Q (Hands Held High demo) EBow Idea (No More Sorrow demo) In Between (demo) (Demo w/Chester on vocals) Pictures (In Pieces demo) Drum Song (TLTGYA demo w/Mike on vocals) Patients (No Roads Left demo w/Chester on vocals) -Minutes to Midnight "seed" titles (all shown on Making of MTM): Arpeggio Intro Brad Idea (might actually be EBow/No More Sorrow) Brad Interlude Armada WAKE Album Intro Idea (early version of Wake) Amnesick Bunker Chunky Munky Clever Name Electric Uvula Resident Turdface Hemophiliac Guitarz Episodes Howitzer Metal Detector Midnight M Permanent Get What I Deserve Unfair, Unjust, Unmerciful The Vanishing The New Song Stump Thump The Date Stun Sterile Poon Yo (Unsolved Mysteries) BFDFTFG Warhol The Wrath State of Emergency Sansei Nashville Clarity Charade Candy (Short) Canaries Song A-Z Song C (You Don't Know) Song E (Jar Jar Binks)
Grecian wasn't a demo of Given Up...or any other song, for that matter. Finished version was Across the Line. That turned out to be Blackbirds.
Do you think Yo (Unsolved Mysteries) became 'Brad's Yo'? Remember the 30 second song that was used on Monster.com for LP promo a couple years ago?
Brad's Yo was probably an MTM seed, but it might not have been that one, because if it was a Brad demo, it probably would've followed the "Song A," "Song B," etc. format that he used for his ideas that he wrote for MTM. I'm not sure if ALL of Brad's seeds followed that naming format though, so it's possible. I'd say probably not on that one.
What about A.06 (A-Six)? For sure there are more. There are also some more demo names that Mike mentioned on his blog or on Ustream: Chicken Basket, Megatron (New Divide demo), Voyage, Underbite, Rygar (http://mikeshinoda.com/2009/06/05/how-we-write/). Chicken Basket: This week, I did a song where the music sounds like Santogold (or Santigold, if you like) meets Postal Service meets At The Drive In or something. Very weird... but even weirder, the vocals are crazy - I asked our engineers what they thought it sounded like, and the responses I got were things like "Peter Gabriel" and "Huey Lewis, in a really good way." Four-part harmonies that ebb and flow with the track. I feel like I'm on drugs when I'm listening to it. It's tentatively called "Chicken Basket." One of the ATS tracks? For sure NOT a ATS demo. Although it's a MTM demo, but any connections to New divide? Stands for what? Brad (Fuck) Delson (Fuck) The (Fuck) Great
That description kind of fits "Roboy Boy". Kind of. :* But, as "Roboy Boy" was a working title in itself, I doubt they changed from one ridiculous working title to another. ;P
I doubt "A-Six" is actually an alternate title for A.06, as "A.06" is a working title in itself. They probably just used an alternate naming on the LPU9 CD to differentiate between the two versions of the song. The band pronounces the title of Figure.09 as "Figure Nine," so they probably just used the phonetic version of "A.06" for the long version. Megatron had slipped my mind, so thanks for reminding me. I doubt Chicken Basket made MTM, if for no other reason than I can't think of any song on the album with 4-part harmonies (there are numerous songs with 3-part harmonies, and several with more than 3 vocal parts going at once, but I don't think there are any where there are 4 different parts on the same lyric). Get What I Deserve wouldn't have any connection to New Divide, unless Mike just happened to re-use a lyrical idea when writing New Divide.
