Ugh, this is soo painful too look at... It's hard to get a good picture of it, as have to first adjust the iPod so the camera adjusts the lighting [glare] and I also have to keep my finger on the wheel otherwise the backlight'll turn off... *sigh* Can't do much, can I? I'm guessing a warranty can't help this, as I damaged it. Can I somehow replace the screen myself?
You could probably get the screen replaced, but likely for more than a new one would cost. Same thing happened with me and my old Rio...except I scammed Best Buy. Not sure you'd be able to do that with more visible damage like that
Hence my sarcasm. Shoot Apple an email and see how far you get...worth a try, the worst they can do is say no...
(ii) Damage to the Covered Equipment caused by accident, abuse, neglect, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider), unauthorized modification, extreme environment (including extreme temperature or humidity), extreme physical or electrical stress or interference, fluctuation or surges of electrical power, lightning, static electricity, fire, acts of God or other external causes; Not a chance in hell that I'm getting this fixed by Apple.
Someone said you can buy a screen off eBay. Or you could just find a stupid friend to sell you an iPod for $20 like I did.
Yeah, I was thinking about looking on eBay for screens... And there's no chance that I'd find some idiot like that.
That was me that said that. Get a screen off ebay for around 70$. They're fairly easy to install... I take my 4g and 5g ipod apart all the time in class when I'm bored.
Yeah, I know how easy it is to install. I've seen and read about it done. I guess my warranty's useless now, eh? Now I just need to find a replacement.
Oh word of advice...wear gloves when you take it apart if you don't want them to know... Somehow my 4g 60gig photo has my thumbprint inside the front of the case over the screen.
If your having problems having the ipod start up try this: http://www.macgeekery.com/hacks/hardware/fix_your_dead_ipod_for_free
