Just finished episode 7. GAWD Dexter has become SO FUCKING SHIT! This might be one of the weakest seasons so far. I cannot believe this is how they are ending this show. They are 7 episodes deep, most of the story/characters are developed already, it's too late for it to redeem itself. Sad.
I'll have to agree with you. It's not just one of the worst seasons, it is THE WORST season of Dexter to ever disgrace TV. I've said it once and I'll say it again: Over half of the season has passed and NOT ONE DAMN THING IS EVEN HINTED AT BEING RESOLVED. It's stupid how fucking shit this show is in its last season. It has honestly pissed me off and I feel like it's a job to even have to sit through it at all even more. Before I felt like I should finish it no matter what, in principle because I've watched it all up until now but I just can't anymore. I have officially given up. Hannibal makes a way better serial killer show than Dexter these days. I mean, many subplots and an major arc has already passed in that show in only a 13 episode season. It's taking Dexter 8 episodes (so far) to even give a hint as to what the end game is on it's last season of 12 episodes. And on Breaking Bad more progress has been made in 47 minutes than in 7 hours of Dexter. It is just not forgivable. I'm done.
I'm so sad that this show doesn't have a stronger ending. What pisses me off more is the fact that they may be shitting up the plot because they're trying to write some stupid ass spin-off. Fuck that. Someone said the season is going into high gear now, and I'm hoping for it to, not because it'll redeem the season but so that it'll at least not suck the life out of the series as a whole. I'm finishing the show for Dexter, not for this horrible season
Allow me to go a bit more in-depth... SPOILERS AHEAD!!! Being the final season one would think that Dexter would be under heat all the time. That the writers would push this character to its limit... BUT NO! Dexter, this season, seems more relaxed than ever before! There is no threat to anyone finding out his identity... there are barely any kills anymore either! Even his inner monologues sound lame this season! Deb and Dexter's relationship eroding... that's a dope concept they could've explored in depth but they wrap that up by having Deb drown Dex... that's a CHEAT! The idiot writing team didn't know what else to do with that arc. Who the fuck cares about Masuka's daughter. Who was the idiot who came up with that little subplot for Masuka? What.. are they trying to give his character some sort of 'depth' now after 7 FUCKING SEASONS of being nothing but a perv! And it's not even like they are doing anything remotely interesting with their story. Who the fuck gives a shit about Harrison's nanny and her whole thing with Quinn. Fucking hell! Seriously... she is the most one-note character in this whole fucking show and she's getting more screen time than ever! WHY? Speaking of Quinn.. his whole arc of being a sergeant COULD HAVE BEEN interesting IF they didn't decide to put him up against a character who barely has a line in the whole show! Then there is Deb's boss guy. Man oh man.. every time that asshole pops on screen I just wanna punch him square in the face! Such an uninteresting character that does nothing but kill time. This is the last season... there is no point in suffocating the show with new characters. With the time they wasted in bullshit arcs of Harrison's nanny/Quinn/Masuka's daughter they could've fleshed out Dexter more... give his character more challenge to tackle. I mean c'mon it's the last season but the terrible writing is making it seem like it's a mid-series slump. The only decent character and concept brought this season was that of Vogel. But that didn't last very long. I thought they would do some crazy shit with digging up Dexter's past through this Vogel character but NOTHING! What we got was a Brain collecting serial killer plot that got wrapped within the first 5 episodes... and ever since then all the thrills and chills (bits they had) were thrown out of the window.
The brain guy is still out there. He has to be. There's just no way Yates was the scooper. I'll be ok if the show keeps showing the titty bar every episode. Vince's daughter is a pleasure to look at. Just heavenly. Having Hannah grace the screen till the end would also be just fine. If the story is going to be clusterfucked, I want it to look good while doing it. The whole Zach story is stupid. Incredibly stupid after that ending. Seems so strange to be starting new storylines with less than half a season left in the series. I still remember that bar scene with Isaak Sirko last season. He and Dexter were so fleshed out before that scene that it just felt so tied together when that storyline ended. It seemed like a special badass moment in both of their lives. That scene alone made me feel good about the season. For this season there's no buildup, no fleshing out, and apparently no tension really anywhere. Dexter hasn't been explored any more deeply and all the stories kind of just plod along.
Well that was at least an intriguing fun episode. There were definitely a lot of comical scenes and DAMN that sex scene. Anyhow, this has been the episode from this entire season. Looks like shit is finally going to start blowing up next week. At least now we have a direction for Dexter
So the brain scooper is still out there like everyone guessed. Right now seems like it's Cassie's boyfriend but wouldn't that be too obvious? They wasted so much of screen time with all the comedic shit (seriously it's so unlike Dexter) and Dexter eating out with Hannah. All of that shit bothered me... in fact I don't buy the whole Dex/Hannah arc at all... so everything related to that kinda bores me. But despite all that, I guess this episode brought in some level of intrigue with Zach's death. Although it was executed/edited very poorly.. one minute Dex is fucking Hannah then boom.. Zach's dead. Wonder when Zach was killed.. wasn't Vogel supposed to drop him off?
I've read some theories that Cassie's boyfriend is Vogel's son. The dinner story she didn't want to talk about involved him and that's what made her go into the psychopath field (and why she's back in town). He starts dating Cassie simply because she's Dexter's neighbor and he can get closer to Dexter without him having any idea. Then he manipulates Cassie's crime scene to make it look exactly like Zach killed her in order to try to get Dexter to kill him for some reason. Maybe for fun. The whole thing just seems too convenient. Like, hey bitch, how about you allude to the fact that you have a psycho son that scoops brains? That might make it easier for Dexter to solve this problem. Which makes it seem that she doesn't really care about Dexter solving the problem. That she has a totally different motive entirely. Like why did Yates have all her computer notes on her patients? They sure as shit seemed handed to him. It's almost like she's pitting all the psychos against each other, trying to kill off all her crazy patients and see who wins. Those theories would make the story actually pretty fucking sweet, but it would have made the whole season much more exciting (and possibly great) if they revealed that in the first few episodes instead of dragging us along with seemingly irrelevant plotlines.
Wouldn't being a psychopath researcher be the perfect hiding-in-plain-sight cover for a psychopath? Vogel has experimented on her subjects before. But maybe that's too obvious, although this season has been so tedious and haphazardly put together that it wouldn't surprise me.
I just watched all 8 episodes of Season 8 so far, and I don't know why everyone is hating so much on Dexter at this point. I thought this season was phenomenal so far. I also liked Season 7 a lot as well. It really surprised me to see Zach dead with his brain scooped out at the end of this last episode. I wonder who the 'brain surgeon' really is. All signs would point to maybe the mysterious boyfriend of Cassie, but I think that'd be too easy for the viewers to guess. After all, there is only technically 4 episodes left of Dexter forever, and I think there will be some huge kind of crazy twist that's going to happen in the next few episodes. As for Hannah, I don't hate her like a lot of other people. I honestly think she could could go without killing another person, I don't think Dexter or Deb or in much danger to be honest, at least with Hannah. However, it''ll be interesting to see how her and Dexter can pull off being together now that Dexter has asked her to stay. Judging by next week's preview, Dexter wants to find and kill the 'brain surgeon' and live a life with Hannah. Since Hannah is wanted, and Deb and them know she is in Miami, I think it'll be a bit hard to pull off a life together. Something tells me that Dexter won't ever see that live with Hannah. I'm worried because I honestly don't want Dexter to die. I don't know what is going to happen next.
Zach I just had to go through your post and hide half of it. Some of us don't watch the show at the same time as everyone else, and many don't watch the "next week on" segment of the show, myself included. Please use the invisible tags to be courteous to others.
I just watch this show for laughs now. It fell of so bad it aint even funny! So Vogel just completely avoided his psychopath son all this time. She couldn't connect the dots that were so visibly present right in front of her fucking eyes! Never once thought to mention it to Dexter. Give me a fucking break! And why did Dexter, knowingly fully well how supportive Vogel is of her psycho son, mention his plan of leaving the country with Harrison and Hannah?! How stupid do you have to be to expose yourself like that to someone like Vogel!? Some of the dialogue exchanges between her and Dexter this episode were fucking horrible.. like a 15 year old wrote it or something. Dexter didn't have one great kill this season... WHICH IS UNBELIEVABLE! Smh.. I can write all day about how this show has been disappointing me. This does NOT feel like the last season at all... Based on the preview for the upcoming episodes I get the feeling that he'll kill both Saxon and Vogel and fly off to Argentina with Hannah/Harrison and that'll be the end. It's too late into the season for him to get caught or end up dead... neither of them would be earned and wouldn't make sense. At best, maybe Quinn or Elway will find out and will end up dying. Fuck this season!
I can't believe how this show is shaping up to end. I have a sense they are maybe thinking of a movie or spin-off or some sort, because this ending is not doing the show justice at all. SPOILERS Dexter flying off to Argentina with Hannah and Harrison is probably the stupidest ending for the show if it ends up true. I mean, cmon, seriously. We basically all wanted either Dexter to get caught, or die. Something big to happen, that's what I expected in the shows FINAL episodes. I guess it could pull a complete 180 in the next 3 episodes but I doubt it honestly. Maybe Hannah will end up killing Dexter and/or Harrison and that will be the ending, Dexter's downfall was becoming ''human'' and loving and trusting Hannah, which in turns kills him because she poisons him. Either that or they will live happily ever after together in Argentina. And wtf, Argentina? Random as hell.
The show shot its final season wad on Season 2. Those are the type stakes and urgency we need to feel during the final season, but they used up the storyline way too early. After that, every Dexter-getting-caught story felt weak in comparison. They needed to keep coming up with new ideas to keep us interested and they just couldn't pull it off other than the flawless 4th season. But really, the Season 2 storyline was the hellfire that needed to be raining down on Dexter in the final season. Instead of the writers holding off, we were left with them struggling to find what to do with the story until the finale. Even TV shows can premature ejaculate.
Yes, I guess I agree with this, although, I thought Season 4 was epic, and Season 7 wasn't too bad either. I thought Season 8 was going to be amazing, I liked all 8 episodes until I saw the 9th episode last night, highly disappointed, I thought they were going to do something big but it never happened.
