It's one of the standout parts of the song for me, it's lovely. I'm just left wishing it featured more throughout the song, they teased us with it at the beginning then moved on to other stuff. Really good song though.
I think I've erased almost all of 30STM's discography from my brain so I don't know if you're correct or not. It gives me heavy New Waves vibes though if that makes sense. Not sure why. Maybe The Cure?
Loved the guitar tone as well, and it fits the song so well. I think all the comparisons above are valid (30STM, The Cure, New Wave). Definitely getting that kind of vibe from it.
This song has had the most reply for me so far. I hope I don't get sick of it by next week haha. But Emily's vocals towards the end, paired with Mike's last verse is just out of the world!
I personally hear California-era blink-182 in both the guitar tone and the melody Wouldn't be the most far out because blink has taken influence from the Cure in the past before. So that could also be accurate.
This song is so good and is currently catching like wildfire on TikTok. I do love how Mike's Pre-Chorus raps have that same cadence/flow that is present in the rap verse of Sleep Token's "Take Me Back To Eden".
Makes so much sense that the rap bridge was written circa 2019. It feeds off that Post Traumatic anxiety. Also crazy that this song was in the cooker for 5 years. Mike must just be thrilled to finally get this music out into the world.
Hi All! I've been thinking a lot about the lyrics of this song, and, although Mike likes to play the ambiguity, it seems to me that he's talking about his relationship with music after Chester's passing. He felt guilty for trying to continue, looked in the mirror for the face, the creator he was; and then asked for forgiveness, but actually to nobody, because no one was pushing but him. He felt like he could not get close to making music anymore, and he thought he hated making it when not, and pushed it when he felt like starting creating again. He used to brag about people in his raps, but now the joke was his, and it wasn't funny anymore, but then he tried, and thanks to the music for always been there for him.
Continues the trend of 10/10 closers. This band DOES NOT MISS with closing an album. Probably gonna end up one of my fav all time LP songs. I keep hearing more layers each play
I think it's quite telling of the quality of this song's writing that even without the instrumentation this song still sounds really beautiful with the vocal harmonies. It really builds well and it's I think it's a great example of the band really emphasizing that Linkin Park is a co-vocalist band with how Mike's singing is really pushed up in the mix alongside Emily's. I know Mike said during the album listening party that it wasn't about Chester, so officially I guess the answer is that it isn't. But even if it's not supposed to be directly about him, I can't help but also feel like there may be some inspiration there. Who knows?
Considering the song was largely written circa 2018, he'd definitely still be in that Post Traumatic headspace. I think the bridge is a clear example of that.
Indeed, not directly pointing to him, but to how he felt dizzy and confused (and repelled by) making music again.
In an alternate universe, this could've easily been a rougher pre-pandemic Mike Shinoda ft. artist single. I'm so grateful he saved it for Linkin Park because it's something special.
