Out of every Linkin Park song(demos and side projects included) I wanted to see what the top 5 happiest(or,errr, less dark) songs were in your opinion and what the top 5 darkest songs were.

    Really interested in your thoughts.
    :peace:

There are not really any "happy" LP songs. However, there are the more optimistic ones.

    • Waiting for the End (not really, but it's got the whole I wanna a better life thing going on)
    • In Between
    • The Messenger

    And, of course:

    • PBN' Jellyfish

Hah, this has got to give a good laugh. Given Up makes people happy, alright.

I'd say the LP tracks that put me in a happy mood are:

    01. Enth end
    02. I Have Not Begun
    03. LOST IN THE ECHO
    04. Points of Authority
    05. A LIGHT THAT NEVER COMES

    And the darkest are:

    01. Wretches & Kings
    02. The Catalyst
    03. Burning in the Skies
    04. Blackout
    05. When They Come For Me

Wow, my list is funny to me.

    Wat
The only two songs that I would say are overall positive are Iridescent, The Messenger, and Roads Untraveled. You could argue SOAD, LOATR, and kinda sorta What I've Done as being positive, live and let go songs. A lot of songs make me happy because they're cathartic, I like the melodies, etc. But lyrically everything else is depressing lol.

In the case of "Roads Untraveled", it ends on an optimistic note but the rest is kind of dark, in my opinion. Other LP songs are like this too, where they kind of toe the line between positive or happy and ... dark.

I think their darkest song is still "Breaking the Habit". Another one, I think, is "Skin to Bone". The song is almost a dance track but the aura of the song is resentful and for lack of a better word sinister.

Happy and Linkin Park are oxymorons. I guess you could call The Messenger happy, but songs like Bleed It Out and In Between aren't happy, they're just less dark.

As for darkest...too close to call. I feel this question might have been more appropriate dictated towards a different artist, not lp.

All your answers are intriguing. I definitely see these songs as happy for me:

    1. It's going down
    2. Blackout (A future gazing out, a past to overwrite)
    3. High Voltage
    4. Castle Of Glass
    5. My December
These "happy" songs are all tied with some kind of memory or just the melody it's self sucks me in. :)

    Unhappy:
    1. Pushing Me Away
    2. And One
    3. In My Remains
    4. Powerless
    5. Primo
Tied in with bad memories or the lyrics and/or melody is dark and great songs to listen to when I'm feeling down.

Just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Hmm... Linkin Park doesn't really have any ''happy'' songs, but I guess some of their songs have somewhat positive messages.

    Happy
    Somewhere I Belong
    Iridescent
    BURN IT DOWN
    When They Come For Me
    Bleed It Out

    Dark
    Given Up
    A Line In The Sand
    Breaking The Habit
    Valentine's Day
The Little Things Give You Away

I chose the ''happy'' songs because they have a somewhat positive message to me about overcoming odds and bad situations. The dark songs were mostly songs that were about death and other subjects.

LP does have Happy songs, they are just out of context, many songs are like stories, and some have happy endings. But some do have happy sounds, yet dark lyrics

I'm not sure what the happiest song is, but the most depressing, dark song I have EVER heard by LP is Blackbirds...

Good point here - even their optimistic songs still explore "dark" territory, and "Breaking The Habit" is a great example. Even with its ultimately optimistic sentiment, the subject matter still can't really be described as "happy"

How about sonically wise instead of lyric wise? I think the catalyst takes to spot for the dark songs.

Blackbirds and Breaking the Habit are some of the "darkest" songs by the band.

IDK you guys, but all the time I listen to War I feel myself happy. Not because the lyrics, of course, but the punk vibe, IDK. When I listen to that first pause in the song, I show a smile and scream "Waaaaaarrrrr" :awesome:

I actually think Across the Line has the Darkest lyrics.

Pretty much a song about struggling to not commit suicide.

Also Dark as in really sad the demo "Luna."

A song about a loved ones in war dying and leaving families behind. The first verse is from the POV of the dead, as the brother in arms failed protecting the crew and dies along with them lying in the earth, still and desolate like soil and coal.

The second verse is about beginning their journey and visiting strange lands while missing those that they are leaving behind and reminding themselves to keep them in their hearts and minds.

I think it's ''Brother fell protecting us/Somewhere far from home''. But Luna has to be one of my favorite LP songs, lyrically. The imagery is so perfect.
