I agree. ^_^ Although I have been known to randomly wear brightly colored knee-length socks to promote individuality  . But that just attracts weird stares. However that's in public. Since I just moved, I wouldn't know about my new school, though I hear they're big on the labelling... Pfft. My old school, we wore uniforms. Safe. ^_^

people need to label things out of the fear of the unknown. its their issues and their lack of courage to be who they are, not whom they're expected to be by spoken and unspoken rules of 'who you should and should not be'.

here's an analogy of how this mindset we had been brainwashed into works

start with a cage containing five monkeys
inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it.
before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana
as soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the other monkeys with cold water
after a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result-
all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water
pretty soon, when a monkey tries to climb the stairs
the other monkeys will try to prevent it
now, put away the cold water
remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one
the new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs
to his suprise and horror, all of the other monkeys will attack him
    after another attempt and attack
he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted
next, remove another of the original 5 monkeys and replace it with a new one
the newcomer goes to the stairs and gets attacked
the previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm
likewise replace a third original monkey with a new one, then fourth, and the fifth
everytime the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked
most of the monkeys that are beating him
have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs
or why they are participating in the beating of the new monkey
after replacing all of the original monkeys
none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water
nevertheless, no monkey ever approaches the stairs to try for the banana
why not? because as far as they know that's the way its always been done!

so you know, be who you are and if people label you, its their problem, not yours.

It's kind of ironic, how you don't like labels, yet you've set one yourself by saying how you don't dress emo/goth.

but i tend to wear dark stuff but accordingly that automatically makes me an emo goth..im like "wtf?" just cos i listen to bands like cof and nin doesnt make me an emo goth.
their like "sarah, do u cut urself, listen to the used and slipknot?"
im like "i hate the used, they are emo punk and i listen to some slipknot, but how the hell does that make me emo??"

no matter where you go people will always be labeling and you really shouldn't care. it is just an insecurity people have with society. it is a sad thing that people are prejudice.

    Non-individuality is the new individuality.

Displaying individuality has become so redundant recently that it's almost farce. Everyone is trying to be so very different from everyone else that they only end up being like everyone who's trying to be different.

Let it all go. You are who you are. Fuck facades, individuality, and labels.

I don't think 'labelling' people has anything to do with my school. If you mean labelling people based on what they wear, I'd like you to know we all wear the same thing.

ya know, i never get labeled really. I dress however i want to dress. I can be bright one day, and dark the next. I'm just a very nice girl who likes to try new things. sometimes i'm quiet sometimes i'm really loud. I'm a little bit of everything. i can even be hip-hop. lol. i can h/o with black ppl, goths, druggies, juggalos, gang members, jocks, poly sci ppl, honors students, kids who have dropped out. i have the widest range of friends of anyone i know. ppl don't label me because i'm different everyday, but i'm always the same person. i don't try to be anything, all i want is to be myself.....which is hard enough as it is in this society.
