LostProphets frontman Ian Watkins due in court on the 31st due to charges of being a paedophile.

I own all of this band's records (bar the most recent), and they're certainly a favourite of mine from my teenage years, with some nostalgic memories. Saw them live a few years ago.

In the event of Ian Watkins being convicted, it will be very difficult to be able to listen to their music again.

Remember that Hoobastank song, 'Out Of Control'? Ian Watkins did backing vocals on that song. Imagine finding out a potential pedophile once did backing vocals on your record... weird.

 

If they've charged with him creating, holding and distributing child porn, then they've obviously found it on his personal computer. So he will be at least guilty of that.

 

The more I think about this, the more gutted I am. This band has been responsible for some of my very favourite songs down the years. Hell, Start Something is still one of my favourite albums of all time. Not to mention how stoked I was when I realised that the video for Shinobi was shot literally down the road from where my old band used to jam in Edmonton. I really don't want this to be true but the fact that they've charged him with so many offences leads me to think the worst.

I've seen this band live. They've opened for LP on past tours. They've had top 10 hits... Of course we can't label the rest of the band in the same bracket as Watkins, but him being the frontman has pretty much destroyed the band's image. I sincerely doubt the band will continue, whether he's proven innocent or not. It's so messed up.

 

I think the fact that they've announced it publicly suggests they already have quite a lot on him already, with the libel laws out there I highly doubt they'd do it without substantial evidence.

 

He gets my instant hate for hating Taproot, but if this true..... he has to get the very worst.

 

Damn. Pretty fucked up. The guy does come off as a kind of a dick though. Still a shame to see a decent band go under in the worst way.

 

Way to shit all over the other 5 guys in the band who had nothing to do with it.

Granted, Lostprophets only ever had one album that was worth owning anyway, but still.

 

I'm surprised how many fans of this band there are here on the LPA. I doubt they'll continue even if he's not guilty. And I doubt they'd ever be as successful.

This is pretty damn disgusting. I can't imagine the fucker being innocent considering all the public announcements. Let's hope his life is hell from now on.

To be fair, how many non-superfans are going to really know the other band members if they start a new group? Unless they advertise themselves as "the former LostProphets", which is pretty fucking obvious they probably would want to shy away from.

Yeah, it sucks for them that they need to now completely abandon a very successful brand they've established, but when you're not Pete Wentz or one of the Green Day guys, one of the huge perks about not being a lead singer (and thus the "face" of the band) is the ability to just drop and move on at a whim without having a ton of attention called to it. They're the same guys producing the same kind of music, that should do them well for the future, even if they need to start almost from scratch again.

 

I can deal with listening to music made by assholes, I can not deal with listening to music made by monsters. Perhaps if I actually liked Lost Prophets I'd have a different opinion but just like I can't bring myself to listen to a woman beater I sure as hell can't bring myself to listen to a child molester, even if I do enjoy their songs. Why should I support such pieces of shit, in any way? Sure I could pirate but still, I'd feel pretty fucking disgusted with myself.

If you can't listen to the band any more because of Ian, it's totally understandable but I think it's unfair to label the other members of the band 'pieces of shit' like you've done.

 

I wasn't saying that the entire band were assholes, just Ian Watkins. I also indirectly referenced Chris Brown. No where in my post did I say Lost Prophets as a whole are monsters. Given the context, it should be clear and unmistakably discernible that I was referring to assholes and monsters in general. If you took that the wrong way, sorry.
