The White Stripes played their final stop of their cross-Canada show a few days ago in my hometown of St. John's, Newfoundland on our storied George Street (off-topic: George Street holds the North American record for most bars per square foot. It's amazing. ). They played every single province and territory in the country, in addition to playing a surprise concert before their scheduled concerts in each city. Through local radio stations, fans were alerted to a concert on George Street one hour before the Stripes were set to hit the stage for their real concert. After getting lead around from location to location on George Street and neighbouring streets, fans finally were given the right location outside a bar on George. The Stripes' crew spent 30-45 minutes setting up the stage while people stood outside in the rain waiting for the band to show up. Once they were done setting up the gear, it was announced to the crowd that the concert would consist of one note, and one note only. Sure enough, the White Stripes were true to their word: I think it's absolutely hilarious. It's a true testament to our locals on how well-received this was by everyone. We've got a great sense of humour, as shown by the "one more note! one more note!" chants.
Apparently they were in Winnipeg. They played a concert. On a fucking city transit bus. I shit you not.
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Awesome! They filmed the one-note show. Perhaps for a DVD? That's so cool. They also stopped by a busker in Winnipeg and watched him play. Jack even joined in with some bluesy riffs halfway-through his performance.
That was awesome. I think only a band like the White Stripes could pull something like this off nowadays... Any other band would probably receive a large backlash of bitterness.
