If the band wanted the song to sound like this with the piano, bass, and guitar, as you've said - wouldn't they have? You "improvising" on the song doesn't mean that it fits the sound and should be performed live, and this really shouldn't
MKH was right in saying improvising parts over the finished song doesn't fit. It's fair criticism and shouldn't be taken offensively.
