I agree I like the rough sound and to whoever said it's "boring", were you expecting heavier or what? I think it was a good song to release for the occasion. There's a good wall of sound if you listen with headphones. Still not sure if the vocals are newer or original, but either way I really like the song. Hope 'Eros' gets slowly let out song by song now.
I only like a few songs by Deftones (Hole in the Earth, Xerces, Change, Entombed), but Smile gets me kind of excited to see what will be on Eros.
Sounds perfect to me. Way better then most songs on SNW imo. I thought Eros was going to be a heavy-as-fuck record though.
This song reminds me a lot of Saturday Night Wrist. Deftones are one of my favorite bands and this song fits in with that era perfectly. Hole In The Earth, Beware, etc. I remember when the Eros sessions were being posted on the band's blog. I hope they end up releasing the full album soon because this song is great!
Agreed! "Mein" doesn't fit imo. In fact, my SNW playlist excludes both "Mein" and "Pink Cellphone." They both ruin the flow of the album to me. It is perfect without them. I also exclude "Lucky You" from my S/T Deftones album playlist.
Bumping to the official Deftones thread. Other threads to possibly merge: http://www.lpassociation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38854 http://www.lpassociation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38854 http://www.lpassociation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37592 http://www.lpassociation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37735 And the reason for this? Chino has announced the new Deftones record will be out in September: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/deftones-to-release-new-album-in-september/
This is exactly where I stand as well - I'm familiar with White Pony and Diamond Eyes, but haven't taken the time to listen to the rest of their stuff. Seems like a great time, though!
Their latest record, Koi no yokan, is still my favorite, so I kinda hope, they stick with that direction.
I kind of have a hard time differentiating between "Diamond Eyes" and "Koi No Yokan" stylistically. To me, the band went in the same "direction" for both of them I guess "Koi No" has more expansive-sounding textures and a little more keyboard, but that's really it.
I think Koi No Yokan might be their best too. It's pretty much Diamond Eyes with some spacier compositions, but the songwriting is so on point. I like how they took a more back-to-basics approach with the last two albums after a long stretch of experimentation.
Supposed to sound like Morrissey and Jerry Cantrell is making a guest appearance. More information later.
Just reviving this thread for the probable album/single announcement tonight. https://twitter.com/rocksound/status/692386788954996738
