^ this is my worry. and also a reason why im not thrilled for any new kind of PS innovation. the other reason being, Im just happy with the way it is. My only big issue with the PS3 is you cant play your music and your game at the same time. other than that, I think the loading times arent too bad. I think the graphics are great. The controls are to the point with no extra shit (hence why i dont like the touch screen idea). Its all pretty much great the way it is. There was never a need to a have a social network part of a gaming console anyway. They really dont need to do THAT much more and it would be financially stupid to try. They would be spending all this money on all this innovation and the masses wouldnt feel comfertable paying for something that expensive right away. They wouldnt reap the rewards for their work until the price went down which would take a year or two at least. I dont want to wait two years for my work to really pay off and i doubt anyone at sony does either. Its a great system just the way it is and i think its way too early for a PS4. Or for any other kind of new PS tech.

I'm still happy with the current generation, but game sales have been stagnating for a while now. Sony and Microsoft are hoping that new consoles will get more people (and developers, for that matter) excited about games again. And when you think about it, this console generation has been much longer than usual, so the time is right.

I agree with most of this. There's definitely things they could improve on but enough to slap a 4 and a $400 price tags on the box. Idk, redesign the system, make the graphics better, improve the network, and listen to some other fan suggestions. You can give it some ridiculous name and sell it for $300. Since the current system is running about $200.

The reason they haven't been selling as much is because everybody already owns one. Ps4 and next Xbox will sell alot. I know it

There is a lot of risk in innovating, but, it worked for Nintendo and it worked for Apple. However, Sony does best at copying other people, and ........

This is where I visualize where console gaming might eventually go. Just like the PC market: hardware upgrades every so often. Computer graphics is so intensive, computationally, that there will always be demand for better machines. On the other hand, the rate at which processor speed is improving is slowing down, which is slowing down improvement on how much graphics can convey (and fewer people will care about this because we're reaching the point where almost any style can be conveyed) so I don't think that consoles that bank on hardware improvements will come out as often as they did in the past.

The thing I worry most about is games. The industry seems to think the ripe time to launch a NEW series is near a console launch, and only then. Otherwise the mainstream publishers like to take ZERO chances, and release sequels upon sequels, unless it's a licensed game and those often bomb. Fewer console releases would mean fewer new series in this scenario. Or, it could be a ripe time for a different competitor (Valve?) to enter the fray.

Holy fuck, this. Make some damn new games. Take the risk, the jump, learn from it and then stay the fuck away from it. I're sure innovation in terms of new titles will surely get some sales from the get-go.
