Interesting. It reminds me of U2's Verigo without the simplistic effects. I like it.

Does Mike actually play guitar in this song or is it just for him to be in the video?

haha yes he is if you listen there's two guitar parts in the song, not counting the bass. that'd be kinda funny if it was just for the sake of him being in the video.

hey what're the chances of LP's youtube channel uploading the WID music video?

First time, long time, yada yada...

Something to keep in mind regarding the potential album content, the theme of the album, and this first video: Almost all of the images (excluding the band) had to deal with events or patterns in society that contribute to the Doomsday Clock analysis.

It exists primarily as a gauge with nuclear war, and nuclear images are very prominent in this video. So while the actual song may be fairly ambiguous in "what they've done," it's the perfect launching pad for the whole album.

This likely isn't the best song on the album. In fact, I highly doubt that it is. Instead, it's an accessible, catchy song that helps create more buzz for the new sound, new messages, and new look of Linkin Park.

And on that level, it is very, very successful. And very cool. :D

Definitely two guitar parts in the song. You can hear it more clearly during the mini-solo that acts as a sort of bridge.

Also, since he was directing, Joe Hahn was only in a few pieces of the video. However, I think it's clear that the piano/keys part comes out of Mr. Hahn's synth/turntable and not from Mike's piano. I'm betting that Shinoda plays the guitar live, unless...

Well, let's just say that this song could easily be part of an acoustic set alongside the likes of "Pushing Me Away," "Breaking the Habit," and "My December."

Now that's an impressive acoustic set!

The song has slowly grown on me all day.

As for the video, I really really like it for one reason: it's really different from their other videos. I don't even really mean in the politics side of it (which I actually really do like in the video.) It's more that they're really just playing music like an average joe and not trying to act like total badasses.

Take the One Step Closer video for example. Now, I know that was their first video and they were weren't really sure what audience they wanted. Still, they looked like a freaking metal band with Mike's hair and whatever the heck those zombie things were in the video. Now look at the In the End video. There were all these special effects trying to make them look cool. And don't even get me started on the Points of Authority remix video....

But this video is my new favorite, beating out Faint. I really liked the video for Faint because they were playing like normal and the silhouettes were so sweet. But this video is just amazing because it forgets about trying to appear "cool" and they just play their guitars and hit the drums and....whatever Mr Hahn does. And it's amazing for some strange reason.

Well, that was a pointlessly long post...

You can hear Mike playing lead throughout the whole song.

The only time he's not playing lead (I would assume) is when Brad's playing the solo.

I'm also pretty sure this is one of those songs where Mike's going from the keyboard to the guitar. It doesn't show it in the video (because there's no need to).

But it'd be impossible for Joe to scratch and play a keyboard rhythm live, unless it was prerecorded. And the band doesn't do that.

Hmm.. anyone notice they used the same clip from Nine Inch Nails' Right Where it Belongs video? The one they played during their concerts? Maybe it's just a popular clip or something, but the only other place I've seen it was NIN's performance.
