see i respect your views, but i find it compleatly off the wall to be able to think taht a higher being(if ther is such a thing) could care about one little person who doesn't really make a difference in the whole sceeme of things. overall i think that it is a group off ppl that matters, not the individual, even though it is nice to believe that something/someone cares so much about you that they want to test you and may give you paradice. but it only wants to give you paradice if you believe in the "right" thing. but who is there to tell you what is right and what isn't? how come the ppl who make you believe this dont really have a reason for it other than a paradice that may or may not exist? personally i believe that religion is more of a cruch for ppl the lean on when times get bad or tough. by no means am i saying that is a bad thing. the is the only reason y some ppl go on living and can be a wonderful asset for some ppl. but what is right for one person is not what is right for another. i understand y ppl of different religions would relate everything that other ppl say back to thier beliefs, because that is what they think is right and what they know. but what im saying is that there is no way of knowing what is right. no one should be forced to believe waht other people think is right. im not saying that any of you are, im jsut saying. for me there is no deffinant. that y i find it impossible to belive in "God". and so i am an "Athiest". but i think that the term Athiest is thrown around isnt really correctly applied. ok im sorry if i offended any of you. these are my beliefs and im not sure if i put them very clearly into words. so if you want to, ask me a question.
wow, you use some serious generalizations. first of all, who are you to be the speaker for people? not all latinos think like you nor do all athiests think the way you believe they do. ive never used that excuse as how god doesnt exist. another thing, about that god/devil/job story, god did all that stuff to him just to prove a point to the devil. how awesomely caring is god? sorry if that came off as rude, but, whatever. and im an athiest.
Yeah, well, I guess no one can tell what goes after this sick thing called existance that happens in this sick place called world...Maybe even the Matrix exists and stuff, but I'm sticking to Catholic, it's what I believe and what I am.... And you should stick to yourselves too, I have nothing against anyone. EDIT BECAUSE OF LAST POST: I said that most Latinos are Catholics (which is true) and that's as far as I go with that, and I just wanted to talk about that specific argument that I explained, I know there are millions of reasons for being atheist, I just picked that argument. And God after that gave back Job exactly everything he had plus like 2 times more. Plus, the devil is not also God's enemy, he's also against human beings. A victory over the devil is a human victory. And yeah, you were rude, but the world of today needs rude people.
Wait, no offense, but... You're telling me God's making my life suck because he's trying to teach me a lesson and that I'm supposed to believe in him so that it'll make things better? But what if a major problem in my life is the fact that those who believe make my life miserable? I can understand how faith and stuff is supposed to improve one's life but what if the fact that religion IS the problem? People always tell me the reason I get the negative end of things is because I don't believe in God, well what if it's the ones that believe in God that make me feel worse about myself since they all make me feel like I am nothing compared to them because I do not think like them? I am not attacking anyone, but seriously, I see nothing but trouble in religion. Like I said, I used to be a Christian, but eventually it seemed like everything was taken from me, and well hey, you know, once I questioned it, did God give up on me if anything? I had faith and everything, but then for me to lose a whole lot in my life, and then for my family to basically disown me for turning against my previous beliefs is just wrong, if you ask me. For anyone who doesn't know how Asian disownment usually goes, it's basically they kick you out, in a way, they pretend you do not exist and they pretend not to know you even if it be in the privacy of your own home, you're basically dead to them. I guess my strong feelings of being disowned holds the grudge I have for religion. I don't know. Are all religious people like this? I don't think you're taught to disown people because they think differently, right?
jesus christ, talk about hypocrisy. i was saying sorry if i came off as rude. if i was, infact, rude, i wouldnt have said sorry. therefore, i will retract my apology. i have no need to give you any of my concern.
No, not all religious people are like that. There are really exaggerated people everywhere. There are always people like that in all the religions. I only replied to that question because it's getting realy hard for me to answer everything, I'm only 14, cya. EDIT: Sorry, dude, I understood you wrong, I speak Spanish, you know? It's not easy for me to read everything everyone posts in here. Apology accepted, sorry because is late.
That's honestly kind of disgusting--disowning someone because they don't believe in your religion. And I partially agree with you about religion, especially Christianity (I have yet to meet an ####### Buddist). I live in a mostly Christian area, and I will say that most people are perfectly friendly when you first meet them, but a lot of them instantly assume you are also a Christian, and it's a bit scary. I moved here little over a year ago, and nearly everyone we met asked "So have you found a church yet?" thirty seconds into the conversation. Back when I lived in Massachusetts, I never had any problem telling people I don't believe in God. Here (Virginia), the idea of admitting that is freakin' scary. Not that all of VA is like that--there's a very open-minded college-town city about forty-five minutes away. Where I live though, is a small town with crosses in every privately-owned building and churches on every corner.
I'm an atheist. I realized this after being raised as a good Roman Catholic girl, after my confirmation at age fifteen, religion meant nothing whatsoever to me. That doesn't mean that there's nothing good in religion. I believe in many Christian morals, but I don't believe in any sort of higher being. Above all, I believe that you are free to believe what you like, as long as you don't shove it down others' throats. That is the condensed version of my thoughts on religion.
To all the people complaining about the Christians: You shouldn't judge a religion by the people (even if their own religion says to be nice to all or whatever). Rather, maybe you should try and look at the religion itself and then deicide on wether or not you believe what it's telling you or not. I'm saying this because some people say, "the Christians harrass me because i'm an athiest, so i don't believe in God", or something loosely translated to that. That's not right. All I'm saying is, look at the religion itself, and then decide if it's worth investing time, energy and dedication to, and don't judge a religion by it's followers. Example: Adolf Hitler was said to be a Roman Catholic. Don't judge the religion based on one or more of a religions followers. I'm not telling you how to think, or how to live your life, it's just a suggestion. Feel free to disect this post until my opinion is nothing.
Well in my case, it's a bit different, Casey . I have looked at the Christian religion, actually. From preschool to about 5th grade I was taught Christianity beliefs and Jewish beliefs, however after awhile, the extremes religions tried to put me in (going around and praising God's name) which I would never do because I'm not a social person to begin with. After that I got kicked out for supposedly not following them or something like that. Second time I got kicked out of a church was when I fell asleep when my uncle was turned into a priest or whatever. I got kicked out for being "disrespectful" and that's when my family turned sour on me, and that's basically where it went downhill. I don't want to base religion on it's people, but again, in every experience I've had, people haven't given me a chance to get used to things. The only types I've seen are those who give you a one-strike policy and when you screw that up, you basically are a bad person. I mean I find it highly moronic to have to kick me/ban me from a church because I had a negative action there. I have no problems with religion, I think it's a good thing, actually. People who have something to believe in can actually look at something for comfort. However the people who follow give me a very, very bad outlook on the religion. I was taught Jewish beliefs in elementry (believe it or not) and I remember around 2nd grade, I kind of laughed at something she had said (I don't remember what it was), and she went completely insane on me, yelling, screaming, etc. It was insane. I can see people believing in things, but it's like, everybody gets so freaking crazy when you think differently. Or they'll bash the crap out of you for being that way. Like I said, religion is a great thing, it's comforting and can be a good security blanket for a lifetime, however, if those who do not believe the way you do, it seems those who do believe get more insane than those who are athiests or whatever. Of course this is my own opinion, too, however my opinion has been justified over years, and years of hellacious experiences. Hell, my school deemed me "Satan's Son" before I left public school. Why? The president of my class was Christian, found out I was an athiest and manipulated it and made people think horribly. See, I don't understand the major part where people act this way because I honestly thought being part of a religion, was accepting differences. Are these people just ignorant or is it not taught? This, to this day, still confuses me, and no one, not even Christians will give me answers. Oh well, all in all, people will be pricks, I guess, but geez, they expect me to follow something they insult me for not following to begin with, to me, that is an illogical standard.
Fine, well we'll start with the gay marriage issue- while I don't believe the bible mentions homosexulaity by name, I believe it strongly enforces something along the lines of "not wasting seed," and isn't someone killed for pulling out of a girl at the last minute? I'm sorry for being vague and not quoting sources, but I've got to run now, so if this debate is still going on I'll be more coherant, I promise. edit-Wasn't Stalin and atheist? You get assholes of all beliefs.
I am christian too. I also don't like the people in my church as well, they always want to jump all over on you and try to make you act a "certain"way. all "holy-like"
i agree w/ waht you said. and the same type of thing happened to me at school too. i dressed in black and listened to hard rock so in 9th grade one of my classmates  started saying that i was a "devil worshiper" it got so bad that everyone even wrote it in my year book! then i started at another highschool(not cuz of that) and they even started *sigh* it doesnt happen anymore though
I am Christian. I believe in God and Jesus is my savior. I pray everyday but I don't attend church. I find church to be fake and money sucking. I am religious in the comfort of my own home. I do watch Christian tv occasionally and I like to listen to Joyce Myers. She's a great minister. She tells the Word the way I see it and helps me understand the Bible very well.
