Fall Out Boy - From Under The Cork Tree Genre: Pop Punk; Emo Some good moments, but not striking overall. Gets better after Sugar We're Goin Down, with catchier sounds, more relatable lyrics and better choruses that make a bigger impact. It's not as enjoyable as old Paramore to me if speaking of pop punk music. Not an album I'd buy, at least for now. Deafheaven - New Bermuda Genre: Black Metal Not so black sometimes, but I actually like that, with very bright instrumentation and well built melodies. The vocals are the worst part of it, but the instrumentation makes it really worth a listen. I wish there were more tracks instead of more than 40 minutes of only 5 tracks with proper intros, outros and interludes, but they put that into the big songs. I think the best song is Baby Blue and that intro is one of the best I've ever heard even though the melodies to the end of Come Back are beautiful and striking as well, an amazing closer. The folkier opening of the last track is also enjoyable and it opens into a well paced drumming unti the riff kicks in. I enjoy some of the softer guitars and piano melodies they put either in the middle of songs or closing them. This album has everything from a frantic pace and insane riffing to a more chilled instrumentation which accounts for its big variety. I wish it had some clean vocals, but it's understandable why it hasn't, even though that's a thing modern metal bands could do more often in order to go against misconceptions in metal and make it more enjoyable for more people. I can only judge the lyrics after reading because other than that it's impossible to get anything. It'll be hard for me to enjoy Sunbather the same way.
Alice in Chains - "Dirt" Genre: Alternative Metal Metallica - "S&M" Genre: Symphonic Metal One of the best live records ever, and one of the best "symphonic" live records. What sets this apart from most bands who do a live record where they peform with an orchestra is that there's new material actually added to the composition of the songs, rather than them simply playing parts already written. It works incredibly well. The only issue I have with the album is that it has way too much material from the Load era. There could have been so many more tracks from Ride the Lightning and And Justice for All included.
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon Genre: Progressive Rock Chuck Berry - After School Session Genre: Rock & Roll
Harlott - Extinction (Thrash Metal) Havok - Conformicide (Thrash Metal) Sylosis - Dormant Heart [(Melodic-)Thrash Metal] I totally love this new wave of Thrash Metal bands! So many great modern Thrash releases in the last couple of years.
First Aid Kit - Ruins Genre: Folk; Indie Folk; Americana; Country Folk This album is not as good as Stay Gold, as I thought on the first songs because of the second half and the songs Hem of Her Dress and Distant Star failing to make their point. Some of the songs are not as impactful as Rebel Heart, It's A Shame, Fireworks,Ruins or the closing track Nothing Has To Be True, but the album is well written, the vocals don't disappoint even though there's nothing new in that department. It's a 7. I may listen to new Timberlake album today, even though I don't feel like it.
Darkest Hour - Godless Prophes & The Migrant Flora (Melodic Death Metal/Hardcore) Havok - Time Is Up (Thrash Metal) Harlott - Proliferation (Thrash Metal) Going to see these three bands live together in April! Immensly hyped for the show!
Pink Floyd - Meddle Genre: Progressive Rock // Artrock Green Day - American Idiot Genre: Punkrock // Pop-Punk Linkin Park - One More Light Genre: Pop // Poprock
Trivium - The Sin And The Sentence (Metalcore/Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal) Damn, I haven't listened to Trivium in ages (but used to a lot back in the days; they were one of the first heavy/brutal bands I ever listened to) I kinda slept on this album last year! It's actually really good and definitely one of (if not) their best. Now I'm rediscovering their whole discography! Trivium - Shogun (Metalcore/Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal) ... brings back a lot of great memories!
Devin Townsend - "Ocean Machine: Biomech" Genre: Progressive Metal / Ambient Alice in Chains - "Sap" Genre: Grunge Alice in Chains - "Jar of Flies" Genre: Grunge
